The most famous mass transit or public transport systems are those in the world’s big cities. Even if people have not travelled on them personally, they will have heard stories of these legendary places from others’ tales, books or TV series. Places like the New York Subway, the Chicago "L", the Paris Metro and London’s Underground network, often called "the Tube." In addition, dedicated public transport users may have experienced jeepneys in the Philippines, packed buses in Athens or Malta’s vintage bus fleet prior to its recent modernisation.
But what do locals in New York City make of their native transportation systems? Do they like them and use them regularly? Do they recommend them to others, especially visitors, or warn tourists to steer clear at all costs?
New York City – the Famed New York Mass Transit
New York and London are generally cited as having transport systems to emulate. Neither location has earned that reputation without a great deal of work and money being thrown at them.
