Below are 20 metropolitan areas that are estimated to have the highest rates of public transportation use (excluding the use of taxis). Forty-five percent of the areas below are located in the Northeastern region of the United States (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau; for a regional map click here), which includes the New York City metropolitan area with the highest rate of 30.5 percent, and 35 percent are located in the Western region.
