Women in Trucking or WIT came about in 2007 as a result of one woman's vision. Ellen Voie, who has spent her life in transportation, acted on her vision. Roughly five percent of the trucking industry is made up of women, and WIT is constantly working to establish relationships to make it easier for women to be involved in trucking. This doesn't mean just driving a truck.
Positions in the Transportation Industry
The transportation industry is wide-open with opportunities for women or anyone. This includes driving, mechanics, logistics, planning, creating systems to make the transportation services easier, brokering, or managing a fleet. WIT works to encourage women to participate via mentoring, education, networking, and other benefits. Because transportation reaches every industry in the US and effects Canadian and Mexican commerce, the benefits are wide.
